Cue Anxiety!

It’s that time of year again when Faith Lutheran students tend to stress out more than usual. Why you might ask? Unfortunately, it’s because finals week has arrived! “On a scale from one to ten of stress I get about an eleven,” said junior, Jordan Surina.

Studying note cards, days, hours, or minutes before the test, creating abstract acronyms to remember things, or even making up short songs are a few helpful study techniques.  Larry Jones, junior, said “[he tends] to cram the day before.” While junior, Connor Falb doesn’t study at all. Students all around Faith have different ways to make it through the dreaded week.

To find out how students prepare themselves, we asked them what they do the weekend before finals begin. “I usually study the week of finals, unless it’s a really important final I’ll study over the weekend,” said, junior, Reilly Rowland. Others have a different approach. Junior, Jordan Surina “[doesn’t] leave [her] house at all, [she] just lock [herself] in [her] room to study for hours.”

Students often worry about how their final will affect the final outcome of their grade. Typically, finals are worth 1/5 to 1/7 of a students grade depending on the type of class. Depending on AP, honors, or regular classes, teachers weigh grades differently. “My final grades I count it 1/9 of the students grade,” said Mr. Kober.

Majority of high school students here at Faith Lutheran say that chemistry, math, and history are the finals they are most worried about. “I’m horrible at chemistry, so I am really worried.” said Larry Jones.

We asked what tips teachers had for students. “I recommend to make outlines, note cards, and do not ever rush on the test when you take your finals!” said Mrs. Buikema. So good luck, stay calm, and go rock your finals!
