As the school year begins, Faith Lutheran High School welcomed many new students to the Faith family. From sixth graders to seniors, everyone underwent a new student orientation to help them acclimate to life at Faith Lutheran. Spending time with other new students and learning the way around the campus helped to calm their nerves. However, now that the school year has begun, the new students will get used to the life of dances, classes, the new student orientation, and everything in between.
Students accepted into Faith have the opportunity to attend an orientation hosted by current Faith Lutheran students. New high school students arrive a day early to participate in Ignite, which helps them learn where their classes are located and meet new people. Student Life Administrative Assistant Shae Turner explains, “We know starting a new school, especially one as big as Faith, can be overwhelming, and we want to help ease the nerves new students may have before the start of the school year.” During orientation, new students are placed into groups led by current high school leaders. This gives them a chance to make connections and recognize a friendly face on the first day of school.
Along with attending a new school, students at Faith Lutheran have new opportunities for various activities. From the multitude of clubs that our school has to offer to the high-level sport teams and clubs after school, there are great opportunities to get involved in the Faith Lutheran community. From Zyla Galan (9th),explains that she is most excited about the “opportunity to meet new people and (her) classes.” New Faith Lutheran students learned that there is an excellent atmosphere among the kids, but the education is the most significant opportunity at Faith Lutheran for their future careers and college. The academies are a great example of the academic opportunities available in specific fields of work.
In academics, new Lutheran students get acclimated to the intense educational system. With many classes, the faith test offers new students the opportunity to select classes in a specific field that they would not be able to access in other schools. Cade Blodzinski (10th) says that “Foundations of Business peaks [his] interests and has helped [him] in many ways.” As new students, taking these classes provides opportunities to attend various Faith Lutheran academies, offering a more hands-on approach to the workforce and preparing students for college and professional opportunities after high school. These academies will set students up for success in their future, and that is why many students from all over Las Vegas work to get into the Faith Family for the opportunities, experience, and family they get to enjoy.
At the beginning of the year, ignite orientation is an excellent way for faith Lutheran students coming into the school to get an opportunity to understand the atmosphere once the students understand the atmosphere there are many opportunities given to the students through classes, extracurricular activities, and sports, which will allow all students to have the best opportunities after high school and into college and the workforce.
