No Heat November

No+Heat+November

This month, many people are participating in the well-known movement of “no shave November”. This popular yet simple movement is to support men’s prostate cancer. While this particular “event” is typically for men, many females wanted to take part in something fun for the month of November as well.

The idea of No Shave November is self explanatory. People who do not shave and allow their hair to grow untamed are usually seen as lacking an attention to health and hygiene. The beard or facial hair presents an opportunity to remind people of what our appearance and health would be like if we did not take better care of ourselves. In comparison, the idea of girls not using heat on their hair also presents the idea of uncleanliness.

At the beginning of November, many high school girls heard about “No heat November”. This is a simple task in which girls refrain from using any heat on their hair for the entire month. Maddy Larson, states that she is definitely participating. She said that, “at the beginning of the month it was a little difficult but now it is easy,” and she plans on continuing this act even after November.  While many girls are participating in this act, some are not. Sara Wilcox stated that, “[she] will not be partaking in this act because she enjoys doing her hair too much.”

Although many girls have heard about this act, men have not. Mr. Beckman said that, “[he] had not heard too much about this movement,” but many believe it is an excellent way for girls to get involved.
