Warming Up for Winter Sports

Every year, different athletes come together to form a new team with the desire of setting new school records and the hopes of winning a state championship. This winter, the boys and girls basketball teams are looking to do just that, “[Our] goal is to repeat as D1A regional and state champions,” said Jennifer Karner, the Girls Varsity Head Coach.

The girls Varsity basketball team performed excellently throughout their pre-season games, “So far we’re doing good and we are about five hundred in preseason with our season coming up quickly,” said point guard Dani Tharaldson.

“Our biggest strength this year is that we play as a team. We compliment each other with our individual talents,” said Karner. This years girls Varisty basketball team is shaping up to be a well versed, and competitive team.

All teams have their own strength’s and weaknesses, which come with certain ups and downs for the season. “The effort and focus the team has had in practice has been very good,” said Varsity Head Coach, Bret Walter. “I believe this year’s team has a great opportunity to have a lot of success in conference and post season play.” Good teamwork and commitment always show through in the end, helping teams have a successful season.

“We want to make it to the playoffs and go to state,” said power forward Mitch Fulfer. With two different teams already claiming state championships this year, the 2013-2014 Varsity boys basketball looks to claim yet another championship title for Faith Lutheran.

Preparing for a season takes a great deal of time and effort from both the coaches and athletes. Throughout months,  every team has prepared for their individual sport differently. “We’ve been going since the end of the year,” said Tim Jeffries, Wrestling Head Coach, “We’ve trained for almost ten months with breaks sporadically throughout the year.” With such commitment to a sport, the team has high expectations for their season.

Not only have the athletes themselves put their lives into the sports but also the coaches for each of the teams. Unanimously, each sport would like to thank their fans, the students, the faculty, and most of all the support from all the parents and coaches that makes it possible for Faith Lutheran to put together such a successful athletic program.
