Parking at Faith Lutheran has become a very prominent issue to teachers, students, and faculty.
It doesn’t matter if you’re a teacher or student, we all have one common issue. Finding parking in the mornings, mid day, and in between class periods. Many people have found it only accessible to find a parking spot by leaving over 40 minutes early before school. By keeping our parking to the standard that Faith Lutheran does, we limit activities, leave students absent from their first blocks, and make it ultimately challenging for people to keep a steady routine in the morning.
Currently, Faith Lutheran has a maze-like parking lot, keeping six main locations for parking. These locations consist of: outside of the shield/weight room, next to the baseball fields, along the football field and track, by the main entrance of the school, by the soccer field, and behind the portables. The most popular spot to park for students is outside of the shield/weight room. Many students find themselves leaving an hour early before school to secure their parking spot in this area. Although some students save themselves the hassle of searching for a parking spot by purchasing a personal spot, this still has its problem. CEO Dr. Buuck said, “The most common complaint I hear about parking are from families who purchase parking spots from us and then find other cars in their spots when they come to campus.”
“Parking affects my day at Faith Lutheran because if I don’t get there early enough I might have to park further away causing me to be late and miss out on important learning points,” junior Grace Palluck said. “Parking affects my day depending on what time I get to school, because if I come less than 20 minutes early, then I won’t have good parking,” junior Vienna Niotta said.
Dr. Buuck said Faith Lutheran has other plans to improve parking, though. “Yes, we are adding additional parking spaces near the new STEM building.” While this solution could fix many parking problems within the next year, we don’t know what will happen when the sophomores start getting their licenses in the spring. The already significant parking problem could increase exponentially after spring break or even winter break.
While parking at Faith during a regular school day is already a hassle, parking during special events is even worse. For example, on September 8, 2025 the annual “Grandparents Day” took place and parking was significantly more difficult than any other day. This event caused many students to have to park outside of Faith at local businesses due to no parking spots at all. Anywhere they looked while driving around campus multiple times they found no parking, causing students to be late or even absent from their classes.
Junior Maddison Cunningham said, “Grandparents day affected my parking because I came late and had to park off campus at Randy’s Donuts since there were no spots anywhere at 10am, which was horrible.”
The majority of the Faith community say they feel the need to fix their parking situation before it starts to escalate. This problem is already at its peak, and adding additional parking spots needs to be a priority that can help Faith Students and Faculty.
