Faith Lutheran students have been doing online days in October for the all of their high school years. This year students are learning that the online days have been discontinued as of this 2025-2026 school year. For many of the upperclassmen, it ends the mark of a familiar routine.
Seniors who have had online days every year since freshman year emphasize that they feel like it is the end of an era. Some students express that they will miss the online days and the break from school that we have, while others say they are happy to stick to the regular schedule.
The practice of online days began several years prior to COVID. When asked why online days were discontinued, high school counselor Mrs. Clifford said, “The reason why we don’t have online days is that was something that came around during COVID time so that students could have more time to do their work online and not have to come in on campus. Now we are straying away from that and actually offer online courses so if students want to take a class online they have the opportunity to do so.”
It is often hard to teach yourself new topics when it comes to core classes such as a math or science class. Teachers at Faith would try their best to put all instructions on the topics board to help students succeed. Oftentimes the instructions were either very hard, time consuming and overwhelming to try and figure out. While other times the instructions were thought out and simple to follow along.
Senior Sophie Baumgart has been attending Faith Lutheran since 6th grade. She expresses that she neither liked or disliked the online days that we had. She said, “The online days were flexible but were also challenging having to teach things to yourself sometimes with little instruction to go with it.”
Every fall, high school students could look forward to a short break from being in the classroom for school. It was not a vacation break, but a break from having to wake up early and be in class at 7:40. It was an opportunity to log into school from home and for students to learn at their own pace.
Junior Ava DeCaires has also been attending Faith since 6th grade and said that she was unaware online days were coming to an end. “I like them because they let me stay home and do my work but I do not like them because I get a lot of work assigned.”
Farewell to online learning days at Faith Lutheran, however there is always the option for students to attend the fully online FLex program. You can find more information about FLex here; https://www.faithlutheranlv.org/flex
