Munchies for the Military

Nothing means more to a soldier overseas then a care package from home, especially during the holiday season. Making care packages shows our troops we’re thinking about them. It is a way for people to thank these courageous men and women for all they do for us.

Munchies for the Military is a non-profit organization that makes care packages for the troops overseas. The boxes are packed with donated food, supplies, and letters from people and companies around the community. “We are doing this because it is the least we can do for the men and women who risk their lives everyday for us,” said Angelina Cannito, junior, the head of the event, ” My Dad is an ex-marine and I have a brother figure who is in the air force, so I know how much they enjoy these care packages.”

Cannito decided to volunteer the Faith Lutheran gymnasium to host the Munchies for the Military event because she felt it was a great way for people to give back this holiday season.

On Saturday, December 7th, families from the community along with Faith students came together, excited to help out. Many thought it was a great way to give the troops items that most people take for granted such as a tooth brush and soap. “I packed a box of trail mix, Oreos, and some fruit snacks,” said Sydney Stuhmer, sophomore.

“There were tons of people and we packaged a lot of boxes,” said Sofia Getler, freshman. “I feel we gave back to the military a little for all they have given us.” This event helped people realize how blessed they are. It is always a good feeling to make somebody happy during the holiday season, especially for someone who is sacrificing so much for us.”We reached over our goal with about 550 boxes total. I hope our school can continue this next year and keep getting students involved,” Cannito said.
